Monica-Medina-centerstate-bankWhen you walk into the South Chase branch of CenterState Bank, one of the friendliest smiling faces you are likely to see is Monica Medina, the branch manager. She consistently chooses to be a part of the regular daily duties alongside her staff of four in order to connect with clients personally, even striving to call each one by their first name. Medina’s dedication makes clear how much she cares for both the community she serves and her team at the bank.

Born in Ecuador, Medina moved to New York in 1988 at the age of 11. Her banking career as a teller started in 2000 and that is when she fell in love with the banking industry. Through the intervening years, Medina moved up to head teller, then to customer service and finally became a branch manager in 2012 after more than 12 years in her various roles. Her experience serves her well now as she oversees operations at one of the branches of CenterState.

CenterState has five core values, and three of those have to do with serving clients with excellence. One of these is “World Class Service: We will exceed our clients’ expectations by anticipating their needs and responding with a sense of urgency. Each of us has the freedom, authority and responsibility to do the right thing for our clients.”

Medina is a great example of how this happens daily. She considers her extensive customer service experience and her bilinguality two key factors that help her to identify and understand patron needs and how they can best be met.

As a manager, Medina strives to be fair to her employees. She works with everyone on the floor, making sure that they feel supported and an integral part of the team. When asked what she thought were some important traits for a manager, Medina said, “Be honest, examine situations carefully before you make an opinion, and don’t react too quickly.” Not only does this viewpoint line up with another CenterState core value, this philosophy surely serves her well in her home life, since she is a proud Mom of three children ages 16, 14 and 4.

In addition to all this, Medina is active in the community, participating in charity events, fundraisers, and other community outreach events. She is truly invested in making Central Florida a better place to live, raise a family, and bank.
