It has been a distinct honor to have served you as the District 5 county Commissioner for the past four years.  Knowing being an effective county commissioner would be tough enough, being elected in 2008 during one of our country’s most trying economic down turns added a whole new dimension to the task.  I called on a lot of my personal business experience to help guide me through this term.  Using these successful business skills coupled with the drive to be responsible to you, my bosses, has left me feeling that as a community we are headed in the right direction.

While not having made the full turn yet, the county is in a very good economic position.  We have improved economically while making no sacrifices to public safety which I feel should be any elected officials number one priority.

We reduced the budget from nearly one billion dollars in 2008, to our recently approved budget of just under $700 million.  Millions of dollars have been saved by refinancing most all of the county’s bonds.

While saving dollars we were also able to build and expand our road systems.  These needed road improvements are already helping to expand our districts economic viability.

It will be my goal to continue to look for ways to spend efficiently, while making Osceola County an integral partner in the Central Florida region.  We can make strides in economic development while protecting our natural resources.

It would be my honor to continue to serve you the people for the next four years.  My responsiveness to your questions and concerns will remain as the core of the way I have conducted myself as an elected official.

May God bless you and yours…Fred Hawkins, Jr.
